From a review of "Curator's Choice" at the Cohen Gallery of the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, Pennsylvania:
"Maria Creyts continues her investigation of the so-called feminine mystique by displaying shapes and contoured canvases painted in lightly patterned 'girly' fabrics."
-- Ron Schira, Reading Eagle

In her solo exhibit,"lacey"...
"Creyts’ three photo friezes are irresistible.
Part tidy, part tease, 'Bessie Mae/Bésame' (Spanish for 'kiss me') is a 10-foot vertical frieze, where layers of lace, net, tulle and braid dance over candy-striped fabric.
Creyts switches to the horizontal with 'Anima' and 'Home Deco.' 'Anima' combines punk pink plaid with a fur-trimmed row of hook and eyes that, writes Creyts, seems 'on the verge of bursting open.' And 'Home Deco' is a delightful flirt with its yellow pompoms, lacy ruffle and damask-inspired wallpaper, which is coquettishly peeling up at the photo’s edge."
-- Sarah Mote, Kansas City Star

================================
Primarily a painter, Ms. Creyts also pursues silkscreen printmaking and digital projects. Her works are signed ~ mariaurora

Paintings are created by observing assembled still lifes directly and through a patient accretion of satiny acrylic paint, scraped smooth with a blade. Working on paper allows first layers of acrylic to be applied thinly, similar to watercolor. The paper painting is adhered to canvas-covered support. Recent works are circular tondos or based on sewing pattern shapes.

ON LEFT (front page): The artist painting Ellen, a work that recalls qualities and tastes of her grandmother. A silvery-white still life arrangement of pink and green embroidered fabrics and a summer dress is viewed through a window that isolates the composition. Later, the painting was adhered to a specially made shaped canvas, 32“ x 30”.
